The Summer Solstice Music Day, launched by the French Ministry of Culture in 1982, aims to invigorate the French music world by allowing a wide audience to participate in various types of concerts. Today, about 100 countries on five continents celebrate the festival every year on June 21, with more than 450 towns around the world participating. In China, the Summer Solstice Music Day, held within the framework of the Sino-French Cultural Spring and coordinated by the French Embassy in China, has become a popular music celebration among the Chinese people. After landing in Wuhan in 2007, the Summer Solstice Music Day has been growing all over the country.

During the Summer Solstice Music Day 2023, a series of free indoor and outdoor concerts will be held in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Wuhan, Shenyang and Ningbo. This marks that the long-awaited French musicians will finally be able to return to the Chinese stage after a long wait.

What could be more anticipated than a passionate stage and a beautiful summer? These talented bands will bring various types of music sensory experience to the audience through their live performance. Audiences can dance to the cheerful, unruly pop styles of Charlie Murdo and playful Alice, roar in the melancholy rock of a structural band, or immerse themselves in the sound and light journey of a cool bear and enjoy the charm of hip-hop and electronic music. French musicians living in China and old and new Chinese bands will also perform on the same stage, showing the musical blending and collision of Chinese and French cultures.

Charlie Murdo

Charlie Murdo, a surrealist pop singer, creates bizarre, emotional and rhythmic music. Cool Bear combination

The Cool Bear group, composed of GuiB and Yousla from Lille, France, is one of the most prolific duo in the branch of instrumental electronic hip-hop and one of the most famous French representatives in this genre. The group provides a unique world of music at the instrumental level. On the basis of hip-hop, integrate the inspiration from black music, such as jazz, swing, soul music, and add their own trend sound effects. In just a few years, their rhythms spread across all continents and accumulated millions of listeners.

The style of the structure band is a mixture of freshness, darkness and romance. Structure, a remnant of a world that has been destroyed, is the post-punk note of Manchester in the late 1970s. From June 16 to 24, French and Chinese bands will perform at iconic venues in six Chinese cities, such as Sinan Mansion and Jiabei country Park in Shanghai. Cai Dian, Guanggu, Wushang Shopping Mall and Wushangmeng Square in Wuhan, K11 in Shenyang and Hall 1 of Zhenghuo Art Center in Chengdu. The monthly update of the What the France playlist on the NetEase Music platform will also feature the Summer Solstice Music Day as the theme of the June song list, presenting fans with hit singles from Chinese and French bands participating in the Summer Solstice Music Day.
