The science and technology unit of the 13th Beijing Film Festival opens 37 special effects films will be shown at the China Science and Technology Museum.

On the morning of April 23, 2023, the opening ceremony of the Science and Technology Unit of the 13th Beijing International Film Festival and the Special effects Film Exhibition of the China Science and Technology Museum was solemnly held in the Giant screen Cinema of the China Science and Technology Museum.
This activity deeply implements the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, focuses on target, upholds positive innovation, adheres to value guidance, expands cooperation and opening up, and strives for integrated development. Centering on the theme of "Light and Film Science and Technology, exploring the Future together", based on the requirements of the development of the new era and international vision, through film screenings, selection of masterpieces, educational activities, industry conferences, collaborative exchanges and other activities, build the core position for the development and service of the science and technology film industry, show the latest achievements of global science and technology films to the public, and bring shocking science and technology film experience and broad scientific vision to the public.
Cheng Donghong, president of the Chinese Society of Natural Science Museums, Tammy Barrett, executive director of the International Association of Big screen Cinemas (GSCA), Mike Smeyer, financial director of the International Planetarium Society (IPS), Yin Hao, party member, member of the Secretariat and curator of the China Science and Technology Museum, and Pang Xiaodong, vice minister of the Science and Technology Department of the China Science and Technology Association. Chen Xiang, member of the party group of Beijing Radio and Television, deputy director of the Beijing International Film Festival Organizing Committee, and Huang Zhi, director of the Technical Department of the State Film Administration, jointly lit the lamppost symbolizing science and technology and the future to kick off the festival. More than 100 representatives of popular science venues from various provinces and cities across the country, as well as nearly 60 representatives of film and equipment enterprises witnessed the moment.

At the opening ceremony, the list of outstanding films of this film festival was announced, "Hidden Kingdom of Nature" won best science communication film, "search for asteroids" won best special effects design film, "Arctic: frozen Planet" won best audience recommendation giant screen film, "Magic Coral" won best audience recommendation ball screen film, "Childhood Solar system" won best domestic film and best audience recommendation 4D film at the same time. In order to better carry forward the spirit of scientists, this film festival for the first time launched the best scientist spirit film selection, "post-90s" won the best scientist spirit film. The judges of the expert jury of "excellent work selection" presented awards to the award-winning films and units. Leaders and guests at the meeting jointly watched the opening film of the festival, "the Arctic: frozen Planet".
From April 22 to 24, the 2023 special effects cinema industry meeting of popular science venues will be held during the science and technology unit of the Beijing International Film Festival. This annual meeting is the first offline industry meeting after the epidemic. In order to better serve member units, continue to promote the innovation and development of the special effects film industry, and promote industry exchanges and cooperation, the annual meeting specially set up a number of industry exchange activities, such as special effects cinema development forum, excellent film and equipment exhibition and exchange meeting, special effects cinema new technology presentation meeting and educational activity case exhibition exchange meeting.
The Special effects Cinema Development Forum brought together the wonderful reports of eight experts and scholars, including the director of Tammy Barrett of the International Big screen Film Association, the director of the International Planetarium Society and the Adler Planetarium in the United States, and Professor Sun Lue of the Beijing Film Academy. Liang Jie, Associate Professor of the Art and Science Research Center of the University of Science and Technology of China and the Science Communication Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The report will focus on the current situation of giant screen industry and alternative content, cutting-edge technology of special effects cinemas, public education of planetarium, etc., to provide a series of software and hardware development plans for science and technology museum cinemas.
It is worth mentioning that the case exhibition and exchange of educational activities specially held at this annual meeting selected three domestic excellent astronomy courses, such as "exploring the Big Dipper" from Jilin Science and Technology Museum, "3343" starry Variations of Hefei Science and Technology Museum and "Science and Technology Museum of China." the course will be held free of charge to the public on Space Day of China on April 24th at the Arena of China Science and Technology Hall. Through advanced digital celestial demonstration system and optical planetarium, the course highly simulates and reproduces astronomical phenomena. Under the leadership of the lecturer, the audience can look up at the starry sky, cross the stars, and visit the past and the present in a time machine. Explore the mysterious universe.
The festival broadens the channels for soliciting films, strengthens cooperation with domestic science communication and science popularization institutions, strengthens contacts with science and technology workers, and becomes an important display platform for science and technology films in our country. Films distributed and produced by the National Space Administration, the China Foreign language Administration, the University of Science and Technology of China, the Beijing Film Academy and other institutions have signed up for the exhibition. The show will run until May 5, featuring 37 films from 11 countries around the world, including 21 films that first met Chinese audiences and award-winning films at the China Science and Technology Museum's Special effects Cinema. A public welfare show of science fiction documentary films will also be held from April 25 to 28, and films such as "extraordinary Future: Chinese Science stories you don't know", "Magic Chang'e V" and "Dr. Ping password Series" will be shown to the public free of charge.
In terms of cinema educational activities, featured astronomy classes with ball screens, parent-child salons for science fans, and sci-fi film shows are also held one after another during the event.
