The United Nations Office in China was established in 1984. The representative office in China is a multinational office responsible for UNESCO projects and related work in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Japan, Mongolia, the people's Republic of China and the Republic of Korea. The population of the region in charge of the representative office in China accounts for about 1/5 of the total population of the world, and its economic output accounts for about 25% of the world, and it has a long history and rich culture of more than 5000 years.
Through full cooperation with other UNESCO departments and the United Nations system, the UNESCO representative office in China is committed to finding and implementing creative solutions for sustainable development at the social, cultural, environmental and economic levels to help countries achieve their priority development goals and commitments to the sustainable development goals and the 2030 education agenda. The above objectives are achieved through projects in five major areas: education, natural sciences, social and humanities, culture, communication and information.
