The United Nations Educational, scientific and Cultural Organization (hereinafter referred to as "UNESCO") was established on November 6, 1945, with 195 Member States and 8 associate members. The decisions of these two bodies are implemented by the general assembly and the executive board, and by the Secretariat headed by the director general. UNESCO has more than 50 field offices around the world, with its headquarters in Paris, France.
UNESCO is committed to creating conditions for dialogue among civilizations, cultures and peoples on the basis of respect for common values. It is through this dialogue that the world can realize the global vision of sustainable development, including respect for human rights, mutual respect and poverty reduction, all of which are the core missions and activities of UNESCO.
The broad and specific goals of the international community are those set out in the internationally agreed development goals and the millennium development goals, which provide support for all UNESCO strategies and activities. Therefore, UNESCO's unique capabilities in the fields of education, science, culture and communication and information contribute to the achievement of these goals.
The mission of UNESCO is to promote peace building, poverty eradication, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, science, culture, communication and information.
