The Art Space in Beijing will present a new solo exhibition "Nine Lives" by the famous Popper surrealist artist Gary Baseman from October 1 to November 27. Early bird tickets for the exhibition will be available for sale on September 15. The focus of this exhibition will be on Gary Bessman's most important partner, muse and mentor in his life, inspiring his countless inspiration and creativity of the black cat Blackie. Through many works across the multi-media field, the scene will show the audience the years when artists and black cats depend on each other. If you are a senior shovel official and contemporary art lover, then you must not miss this exhibition!

Gary Bessman, the founder of all-round Art, blurs the line between art and commercial art. As a representative of American surrealism on a par with Mark Leiden, Gary Bessman has established his position in the art world since the 1980s as a commercial illustrator and gradually established his position in the art world with his unique painting style. His works are both fairy tale and dark, in the crazy imagination mixed with the background of their own life, forming a deep subconscious visual language. Gary Bessman's artistic creation covers a wide range, including graphic paintings, three-dimensional dolls and multimedia, as well as game design, animation production, and even cross-border cooperation with fashion brands. He is not only the designer of the popular board game Cranium, but also the creator of the three-time Emmy award-winning series of animated short episodes and films of the same name. Among the cross-border brands with him are many international well-known brands such as COACH, Lladro and Dr. Martens.

As the theme of this exhibition, the black cat Blackie is different from the satirical connotation and nightmare discussion in artists' works. Its relaxed and humorous image represents the gentle side of Gary Bessman. Blackie was the outdoor cat owned by Gary's neighbor in Los Angeles. On the first day he moved into the neighborhood, the kitten jumped into his life from next door and has since become the artist's best friend, muse and mentor. The existence of Blackie inspired some important characters in Gary Bessman's artistic career, such as ChouChou,Ahwroo, and to some extent, Blackie is also another self of the artist. Unfortunately, Blackie, the kitten, finally died of illness in 2020, and Gary turned a little bit of living together over the years into artistic creation, showing the multiple worlds of a cat.

In addition to Gary Bessman's first Beijing solo exhibition, "Cats have Nine lives" will also present the artist's large-scale healing sound device "purr room". It will also be the first time that this large-scale art device with healing functions has been exhibited in Asia. The source of the snoring room is the trio-like purr that the black cat Blackie likes to make every day. Gary believes that the cat's sound is full of healing power and makes people infinitely calm. The project caused a sensation in Los Angeles and London, with people lining up to enter the huge Blackie "body" to feel the rhythmic sound and breathing frequency and relax themselves. Early bird tickets for the exhibition are now on sale. It is hoped that visitors who are lucky enough to arrive in Beijing from October 1 to November 27 will also be comforted by the sound of kittens in the purring room and get the power of love from kittens.
